TUBAC is one of the premier art communities in Arizona with many galleries, shops and studios.  Tubac is situated in the historic Santa Cruz Valley  south of Tucson twenty miles from the International border with Mexico.  The village of Tubac is historic as it is 250 years old and it is the first European settlement in Arizona.  It also has a long prehistoric history, in 300 BC it was a  Hohokam village which was later occupied by the Pima (Tohono O'odham) and sporadically by the Apaches.  In the 18th century it became a Spanish Presidio (fort)  to help guard the missionary efforts in southern Arizona.  Five flags have flown over Tubac, Spain, Mexico, the Confederacy, the United States and the State of Arizona.
The "El Presidito" is in the old historic part of Tubac where the working artist studio galleries are located.
